Ensuring your young person gets the best education and the right support to continue their progression is core to our Group’s approach.
In order to achieve that, we’ve designed a range of courses which ensure your young person develops the skills they need to progress seamlessly through our curriculum offering.
All Inclusive Learning students are supported to experience College life, whilst building confidence and developing communication, independence and life skills.
Students are able to experience college life whilst building confidence and gaining the skills and qualifications required for their progression.
This enables them to gain a better understanding of the expectations and options open to them.
Students are able to experience a wide range of our vocational areas in small groups, including but not limited to; Catering, Construction, Music and Creative and Design.
After we’ve reviewed their needs, we’re committed to providing an appropriate level of support for your young person.
We’ll draw information from their Education, Health and Care Plan, and other sources, to ensure the necessary support is put in place.
We use the RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) structure for all of our life skills programmes, with a baseline assessment to evidence your young person’s development.
This is a personalised approach to learning to prepare your young person for adulthood.
The Inclusive Learning department is not open to the rest of the College and is only accessible to those who are studying in the area.
We have a sensory room where students can relax and refocus, and an art room that provides a creative space to express themself and explore their emotions.
Our independent living and learning flat, with a lounge and bedroom, allows learners to practise daily living tasks in a realistic setting.
They will learn how to work a washing machine, practice cleaning and improve their household skills.
We have a wide range of facilities on our campus to help students get their most of their studies with us.
Our Tuck Shop provides hands-on experience in customer service skills.
Learners can also build independence by taking orders, serving customers and working with money.
This provision has been created to provide students, who find typical classroom settings challenging, with a safe environment connected to nature.
The curriculum within our Nurture forest school is often student led, allowing them to take ownership and responsibility for learning, the land and how it is developed throughout the year.
Students are given creative freedom to design and build our forest areas into effective learning environments, whilst
being mindful of local wildlife.
Our aim is to support students to learn the skills to manage personal challenges and to enable students to have greater independence in their learning and personal lives.
Learners are able to express their creativity throughout the year with art and design workshops.
Each year they can also showcase their acting, singing and dancing talent during end of year shows and performances at the bandstand in the town centre.
Taking part in meaningful trips, events and social action projects in our local community are key to helping our students learn about the world whilst developing their skillset.
We offer a comprehensive range of Inclusive Learning Support (ILS) designed to ensure all students can thrive on their course.
The Inclusive Learning team spent a day at Pegwell Bay Country Park on to clear invasive buddleja (butterfly bush).
Room for new plants means there can be new habitats for local wildlife.
Our Inclusive Learning students impress judges every year at the KFE4Skills contest.
By taking part in the boccia competition, learners build teamwork skills and have the opportunity to win medals.
Keri is our Deputy Head of Inclusive Learning (Curriculum).
As a former student of EKC Canterbury College, Keri has worked in education for the last decade teaching in mainstream schools, Further Education and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Department).
She has also worked in Higher Education, managing Student Disability Teams.
Keri can be found in the Inclusive Learning department supporting the broad curriculum offer, working with the team and supporting the teaching of lessons.
She occasionally covers the Inclusive Learning tuck shop with students, which is open to the whole college community.

Our staff monitor student progression individually and aim for all students to reach their targets.
This allows them to progress to opportunities such as:
• Level 1 Employability skills
• Entry Level 3 Personal and Social Skills
• Progression to another learning facility
• Supported internship

“Studying here is great as I have a good relationship with my teachers and College is helping me look into career options and what I’d like to do as a dream job.”
“I’ve learnt many skills here through work placement which is my favourite part of the course.
“This includes my work with the Colleges’ housekeeping team, where I maintain the campus and keep it clean through litter picking and other activities.
“I also become a DJ at College events and help to entertain other students at our discos and parties.”
