Soapbox Derby and Student Celebrations Bring Another Successful Year to a Close

25 June 2026
The annual Student Celebration Day brought the College community together for a day of Soapbox Derby racing, live music, exciting activities, and end-of-year celebrations before summer.

Students and staff came together to celebrate the end of another successful academic year at the annual Student Celebration Day and Soapbox Derby.

Sean, our Student Experience Officer, organised the event, which brought the campus to life with soapbox racing, activities, live music, food, and friendly competition. Throughout the day, students spent time with friends, took part in activities, and celebrated their achievements before the summer break.

The Soapbox Derby

Students gathered along the racecourse to cheer on competitors in the annual Soapbox Derby.

Months of planning, designing, and building came together as teams unveiled their homemade soapbox karts. Teams showcased a range of creative themes, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Scooby-Doo, and Mario Kart-inspired designs, highlighting the hard work, imagination, and creativity behind each entry.

As racers took to the course one by one, spectators lined the track and cheered them on as they raced towards the finish line. The event combined creative design, engineering skills, teamwork, and friendly competition, creating an exciting atmosphere throughout the morning.

The race gave students the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and enjoy a memorable day together.

Students from Ashford, Dover, and Sheppey then took to the track for the Inter-College Challenge, adding another competitive element to the day’s events. After a close race, Ashford claimed victory and took home the trophy, ending Broadstairs’ two-year hold on the title.

Following an action-packed morning of racing, students enjoyed live music, food, and a range of activities across campus. From inflatable challenges and gladiator duels to face glitter and ice cream, there was plenty to keep everyone entertained as they caught up with friends and celebrated the end of another academic year.

A special thank you to our Student Experience Officer, Sean, everyone involved in organising and hosting the event, and Antonia for keeping the crowd entertained on the mic throughout the annual Soapbox Derby.

We wish all our students a fantastic summer and every success in their next steps.
