Results Day Success for GCSE Students

22 August 2024
This GCSE Results Day we caught up with students to hear all about their successes and achievements.

On Thursday 22 August, students at EKC Broadstairs College collected their GCSE and Level 2 results. We caught up with some of our students to congratulate them on their success and find out what their next steps might be!

Molly Bell

GCSE English – 4

Progression: Level 3 HR Apprenticeship

“I have failed my Maths GCSE four times, I am so happy I’ve finally passed! I came to the evening classes with adult learners so that I could be more focused and it really helped me. I really enjoyed being with other people who are ready to learn and want to be there, they all really supported me with learning and becoming more confident.

It’s so important to not give up, just keep going and you will get it! Ask for all the help you need and your tutors will help you. I’m about to start as a Level 3 Apprenticeship in HR with OFP and I’m really excited to start it.”

Jasmine Cosier | Home Educated Programme, Year 10

Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production – Distinction

GCSE Maths – 4 and GCSE English – 4

Progression: Level 3 Animal Care and Science GCSE

“I have had so much fun since joining College. It’s so important to make the most of everything that’s available, since starting College I’ve made loads of friends which has made my course so much more enjoyable.

I’m moving away from Kent soon, but now I have the right grades to enrol on an Animal Care course which is exciting.

My advice? Don’t stress yourself out! It’s important to study really hard, but don’t do it all last minute, make sure you have a plan and stick to it, so you’re not overloaded when it comes closer to your exams.”

Norah Cooke | Home Educated Programme, Year 10

Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production – Distinction

Progression: GCSEs at Junior College, will be going in to Performing Arts in Canterbury in the near future.

“I am so happy I could cry! My dreams is to become an actor in the West End because I can sing, dance AND act. Before this, I was home educated but chose to become part of the Junior College because I love making new friends. I’ve learned so much about music, it was always a passion, and the College has really helped me learn more about it. Outside of College I’m in an indie/rock band, we mainly do covers, my favourite is Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana – the drumming in that is really fun.”

Jacob Fitzsimmons

Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production – Pass

Progression: Level 3 Music

“I really want to become a music teacher when I’ve done my Level 3 in Music next year. I think it’s really important to give young people a chance to study music and understand where they are coming from – I want to support young people in Schools with their learning and understanding.

I am so much more independent and focused on myself since I started College. My confidence has really grown since I started the course, especially in my music ability. I can play lots of instruments, but my favourite is definitely the guitar, I’m planning on learning more instruments and getting more confident next year.”

Fenella Ellisday-Hunt | Adult Evening Class

GCSE Maths – 4 and Chemistry – 5

Progression: Applying to University for Dental Hygiene

“All my hard work has finally paid off. Some days were 14 hours long because I would go to work at 7am and not get home from my College classes until 9pm.

At the moment I’m working full time as a Dental Assistant, but fingers crossed I can start University in September to become a Dental Hygienist.

If anyone is thinking of doing an evening course whilst you are working full time, just do it! It is hard work, and it can be tiring but it pays off – just look at me now! I’ve made so many friends from different backgrounds and I’m so grateful for that. You are never too old to learn!”

Adult learner, Fenella posing happily with her GCSE results.

Tegan Cooper | Junior College Year 10

GCSE Maths – Grade 4

Progression: Second year in Junior College, focussing on Sport

“I can’t believe I’ve done it already – I’m really proud of myself and I know my Mum’s proud of me too. My big dream is to become a physiotherapist, so I’m one step closer to that now.

I think it’s so important to try your hardest throughout the course, I found it easier to be consistent with just trying hard and being really focused. I would always ask for extra work in class so that I could understand everything properly and revise.”

Brooke Wilkieson

Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production – Merit

English – 6

Progression: Level 3 Music

“My dream is to be able to travel the world and teach English, I absolutely love English and reading.

I already had a 4 in my GCSE English but retook it because I was only a few marks off a 5 – I had no idea I’d be able to achieve a 6! I revised a lot which definitely helped, but I also really enjoyed learning the subject too.

I feel so much more confident since starting my course – all my tutors have been lovely and supportive. Whenever I’ve found something hard, I knew I had someone to talk to which really helped.”

Austin Vranken | Home Educated Programme, Year 10

Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production – Merit

English – 5

Progression: Level 3 Music

“This year hasn’t been easy, but it was worth all the hard work. Nothing is too hard if you put your mind to it and focus on your end goal. In the future, I would love to be an actor, and now I feel really confident to be able to do that in the future.”

Principal of EKC Broadstairs College, Paul Owen, commented: “I’d like to wish good luck to all students collecting their results today. Whatever the outcome, well done for working so hard throughout the year. I hope you get the results you deserve and you want, but if not make sure you reach out and we can provide you with support in deciding on your next step.

I’m also excited to meet our new cohort of students over the coming weeks. Myself and the staff team at EKC Broadstairs College are looking forward to the new year and helping even more young people on their educational journey.”

We would like to congratulate all our students on their fantastic achievements and wish them every success for the future.
