EKC Broadstairs College students celebrate GCSE and Level 2 success

21 August 2025
This GCSE and Level 2 Results Day, we caught up with students to hear all about their successes, achievements and what they’re doing next.

Students have been celebrating today after receiving their GCSE and Level 2 results, marking the culmination of months of hard work and determination.

The atmosphere on campus was full of excitement as learners collected their grades, many achieving results that will propel them to the next step in their education or career. For some, this means progressing to higher-level courses here at EKC Broadstairs College or at our other Colleges across East Kent, while others are preparing to begin Apprenticeships or move into employment.

We caught up with some of our successful students to hear their thoughts and what they’re off to do next.

Noah studied GCSE Maths and Level 2 Engineering Technology.

Noah, who studied GCSE Maths, was ecstatic to have passed, and is now progressing onto T Level Engineering (Design and Development) at EKC Dover College.

Talking about his time at College, he said: “Engineering is something I’ve been interested in since I was young and wanted to pursue further because I did engineering work experience in Year 10 with my neighbour, and that really inspired me to do it in the future.

“The course was definitely the best part of my time at College, as I really enjoyed it and I had good friends around me too.

“I’d say to anyone thinking about College, 100% go for it! You get a lot more freedom over what you do in the future and the courses in general are just a bit better than other options.”

Noah’s dad, Sean, expressed his gratitude to the lecturers, and staff at EKC Broadstairs College.

“I’m feeling really elated today and I’m really proud of Noah. I want to say thank you to the staff on the Engineering course, and also to Noah’s Maths tutors who have gone above and beyond to support him.”

Darryl studies Level 2 Engineering Technology.

We caught up with Darryl, who also studies Level 2 Engineering Technology, and was grateful for the opportunities that the College provides.

He said: “I chose my course as I have a passion to do Aircraft Engineering.

“At College they brought in spokespeople from Ryanair to talk to us about Apprenticeships, which got me thinking about doing one in the future.”

He added: “My advice to anyone thinking of coming to College is to take College seriously.”

Tegan achieved a five in her GCSE English qualification.

Junior College student, Tegan, is looking forward to joining Millwall Football Club’s academy in Canterbury while studying at Sixth Form.

Tegan achieved a 5 in her GCSE English and was beaming while telling us about her College experience.

“I studied here at Junior College as I felt it would give me a push forward into my next steps sooner, and it felt like a friendly environment to be in.

“I had all the support around me. If I ever had any downfalls, there was always people there to support me and bring me back up. I felt it encouraged me to do better for my future”.

Staff from across the College were very proud of today’s results.

Michael Luder, Head of English at EKC Broadstairs College said about the day: “Results Day is always an emotional time, and some of these students have re-sat three times, and are excited to have passed!

“Some of our students have gone from a grade 3 to a grade 6 in one year, so it’s a mixture of emotions – we always just want what’s best for our students.”

George (L) and Charlie (R) both studied UAL Level 2 Creative Media Production and Technology, under their tutor, Thomas (C).

Our Media students were looking forward to progressing onto courses at our new Margate Digital Campus.

Charlie has always had an interest in media as he told us: “I really like taking photos, making films for YouTube and that kind of thing, so I thought it would be great to study it and take it further.

“College has been really fun and enjoyable for me, and just so much better than school.”

He added: “My favourite thing about studying at College has been learning all the different techniques and being given the opportunity to just book out a room, and equipment, and to just go and experiment.

“We’ve been given so many opportunities to do live work, from taking photos of the Music students performing in town, to making videos at the College’s soapbox race.”

George found his passion for media after a teaching assistant recommended it to him. He told us how he found that College really helped him prepare for the workplace.

“It’s really practical, and it’s not just about sitting and researching – you actually get to do something with your time.

“I’m really excited to study at the new EKC Broadstairs College Margate Digital Campus for my T Level next year”.

We also caught up with their lecturer, Thomas, who said: “I’m incredibly happy for both George and Charlie today as they received their grades for their Level 2 course.

“I’m really pleased both will be continuing with us, having received the necessary grades for our new T Level in Content Creation, part of our exciting expansion with the opening of the EKC Broadstairs College Margate Digital Campus.

“All of our students are unique and approach their work differently. George and Charlie are both creative and hard working, and it’s brilliant as a tutor to see them receive the recognition they worked so hard for.”

Our staff were on-hand to celebrate with their students, and provide guidance and advice on next steps.

Principal of EKC Broadstairs College, Paul Owen, commented: “We are very proud of our students today as they come in to collect their results.

“Our learners have worked very hard, and they all absolutely deserve the outcomes that they’ve achieved – which will support them as they go on to their next steps.”

We would like to congratulate all our students on their fantastic achievements and wish them every success for the future.
