Students and staff from across EKC Broadstairs College came together last night to celebrate outstanding achievements, commitment and success at this year’s Student Awards ceremony.
On arrival, guests, including students, staff, and supportive parents, enjoyed a selection of canapés prepared by our talented Catering department before gathering to recognise the success of our student award winners.
The Michael Wright auditorium was transformed for the occasion, creating a celebratory event space with photo opportunities featuring a balloon arch, sequin backdrops and Student Awards banner.
This year the event introduced a new format, with three shortlisted students invited to the stage for each category before the winner was announced by members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Nic and Sarah, spoke about each shortlisted student’s achievements and the reasons behind their nomination, highlighting the dedication, resilience and contribution that had earned them recognition from staff and peers alike.
The evening also saw the introduction of a new award in memory of Natalie Stone, a much-loved member of staff who sadly passed away earlier this year.
The award was created to honour Natalie’s legacy and recognise students who embody the values and qualities she brought to the College community.
The inaugural recipient of the award was Parisa Kanda, who spoke of how proud she was to receive recognition in Natalie’s name and to help honour her memory, commenting: “It’s really lovely to be given this award, I really didn’t expect it. I feel like I’m honouring Natalie’s memory and will continue to do so with my dedication next year.”
Parisa will progress into the second year of her course next year and is looking forward to continuing her commitment to her studies honouring Natalie’s memory.
One of the evening’s most prestigious accolades, the Principal’s Award, was presented to Mimi Wood, Students’ Union President, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to College life and for successfully representing the student body.
Presenting the award, EKC Broadstairs College Principal, Paul Owen, praised Mimi’s dedication and commitment throughout her time in the role, describing her as the most committed Students’ Union President he has had the pleasure of working with over the years.
Upon receiving the award Mimi told us: “I feel really excited to be given Paul’s Principals’ Award. I was told to come along tonight but had no idea why so this was a big surprise. This year I was just happy to do a good job and help make the College better.
From my term as President, I hope I’ve inspired other students to get involved, and to always try their best in whatever scenario or situation they find themselves in.”
Closing the evening, Paul reflected on the significance of celebrating student achievement and recognising those who have gone above and beyond throughout the academic year.
Paul added: “This is always one of my favourite events of the year because it gives us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible achievements of our students.
“These awards are about more than academic success; they acknowledge the commitment, resilience and determination shown by students who have gone the extra mile throughout their time at College. Congratulations to all of our nominees and winners, you should be extremely proud of everything you have accomplished.”
The Student Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the talent, determination and achievements of students across the College, recognising those who have made an exceptional contribution both inside and outside the classroom.
Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and winners for their hard work and success throughout the academic year.
