EKC Broadstairs College launched its first ever ‘Park Life’ event, dedicated to supporting people across the campus.
Bringing together a wide range of local services under one roof, ‘Park Life’ is a one-stop space where all students, regardless of age or course, can access free, confidential advice on everything from mental health and personal safety to drugs and alcohol awareness, health, and more.
The event aimed to empower students with the tools, information, and support they need to feel confident and stay safe, both in and out of education.

Held in the Welcome Building, ‘Park Life’ featured organisations including British Transport Police, Kent County Council, St John’s Ambulance, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Thanet Community Safety Partnership, offering activities and information.
Thanet Girls Can were also in attendance, encouraging more women to get involved in sport and physical activity. Students had the opportunity to take part in informal sports sessions like badminton on the green.
As well as support and advice, the event offered plenty of fun. Beauty and Media Make-up students were on hand to provide colourful face painting, while the Students’ Union provided sweet treats with free popcorn and a sweet counting contest.

One of the biggest hits was the smoothie bike by Move ‘n’ Smooth. Students pedalled their way to create a healthy fruit drink. This activity promoted a wider awareness of sustainability and healthier living choices to our learners.

The event was organised by the College with the Student Experience team, as part of their commitment to enriching student life and connecting learners with the wider community.

Student Experience Officer, Sean Whyley-Gunning, said of the day:
“It’s an educational day but we’ve also added many fun elements to it as well. It’s similar to previous events we’ve had before but, today is more focused on how students can help themselves right now. We wanted them to have a big opportunity to get advice and guidance from a wide range of services.
“I hope that everyone comes away from today with lots of general tools and information to help them with their future. It’s also great to see that they’re making the most of the chance to take part and get active today, especially with the sports activities and the smoothie bike.”

With many stalls to explore, lots of conversations taking place, and many engaging activities to enjoy, the ‘Park Life’ event created a welcoming space where students can learn, connect, and access local support that makes a real difference.
Thank you to all the organisations who took part and helped make the first-ever ‘Park Life’ such a valuable experience for our students. These included:
