Where can a T Level in Education take you?

Consider studying Education and Childcare and enter an exciting world of possibilities. Here are four roles you could progress into.

The T Level in Education and Childcare is a fantastic route into a wide range of careers working with children and young people. Here are some of the roles you can progress into after completing your T Level.

1. Nursery Assistant 

Nursery Assistants help babies and children up to five years old to learn and develop in a safe and supportive setting. 

During a typical day, you could: 

  • Plan and supervise activities such as music, cooking, or arts and crafts 
  • Help children develop their language and numeracy skills through games 
  • Feed and change babies 
  • Take part in storytelling, singing, and roleplay 
  • Talk with parents, carers, and other nursery staff 
  • Observe children, making notes to write reports

2. Learning Mentor 

Learning Mentors provide support and guidance to children, young people, or adults who experience difficulties with their learning. 

During a typical day, you could: 

  • Liaise with staff to identify learners who would benefit from mentoring 
  • Identify ways to support the needs of learners, and boost their self-esteem and confidence 
  • Help learners who are underperforming in their subjects either in lesson, or outside the classroom 
  • Communicate with parents, carers, and other agencies 
  • Maintain accurate records, and prepare written reports and evaluations 
  • Organise transition activities for learners moving to secondary schools, or on to further education

3. Teaching Assistant 

Teaching Assistants support teachers and help children and young people with reading, writing, and other learning activities. 

During a typical day, you could: 

  • Work with teachers to help prepare lesson materials and equipment 
  • Supervise group activities, including trips and sporting events 
  • Help teachers to manage class behaviour 
  • Get the classroom ready for lessons and clear away afterwards 
  • Support learners in a group or individually to understand their work and stay focused

4. Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant 

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants support teachers to help children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). 

During a typical day, you could: 

  • Work with the teacher to prepare learning materials 
  • Help to look after the physical, social, and emotional welfare of learners 
  • Maintain records and attend review meetings 
  • Help to create an engaging, supportive, and inspiring environment
