28 October 2024
We have some very delicious home recipes for Halloween treats from our Catering kitchen, all made by our Junior College students.

To kick off the spooky season, we have some very delicious home recipes for Halloween treats from our Catering kitchen, all made by our Junior College students.

It’s the time of year for Halloween parties, dressing up, tricks and especially treats.

As part of their exclusive Halloween Bake Off, the students were tasked with making cakes that tasted delicious but looked spooky!

A plate filled with 3 cupcakes decorated with oreo's and black icing to look like spiders. On the plate is also a ghost shaped cookie. The plate is on a red and white table cloth.

Want to make Emily’s Spooky Monster Cookie? Find out how with her super simple recipe, with a special Halloween twist.

Ingredients

225g softened unsalted butter

200g caster sugar

225g dark brown soft sugar

2 eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla essence

375g plain flour

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1 tablespoon hot water

½ teaspoon salt

350g dark chocolate chips

Step one

Preheat oven to 180 C. Prepare your baking trays with greaseproof paper.

Step two

Cream together to butter and both sugars until smooth.

Step three

Beat the eggs and add to the mixture one at a time. Once you have a smooth mixture stir in the vanilla extract.

Step four

Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the hot water, add in salt to the solution then add to the cookie dough.

Step five

Sieve the flour. Add this to your dough along with the chocolate chips.

Step six

Place the dough onto your baking sheet, ensure there is enough room for the cookies to expand in the oven! Bake for ten minutes or until the edges are nicely browned.

Once your cookies are baked you will need to put them on a wire rack to cool down. Once cooled you can use a circular cutter to cut them out – Remember you need an even amount to make your monsters.

Now your cookies are in the baked, cooled and cut you get to decide on your decorations! Emily used icing sugar, food colouring, marshmallows, edible eyes and sprinkles to create her monster.

You can be creative here, just make sure that you eat the cookies before they eat you!
