How to prepare for the new academic year at EKC Broadstairs College

22 August 2025
In the blog we explore what you can do to get prepared for the new academic year.

As summer draws to a close it is important to thing about the year ahead of you and prepare yourself for a positive year of learning at EKC Broadstairs College.

In this blog, we explore a few ways you can ensure you feel organise and ready to start the next year of your learning journey.

Organise your bag

Our first tip is an easy one, organise your bag. Have a clear out of anything you don’t need and pack your bag ready for your first day back, make sure you take out the lunch box that has been lurking in there since the end of July!

The new year is always a good time to stock up on supplies too, make sure you have pens, notebooks and a planner so you feel organised and ready to learn on your first day back.

Plan ahead

After enrolment you will receive your timetable. Once you have this you can begin to plan ahead. Make sure to know which days you will be required to attend college and note down any important dates such as exams and specific deadlines. You can find term dates here

This will help you feel prepared and give you an idea of how much free time you will have. Once you know this you can think about how you might spend this free time; could you get a part time job while you study to help you save up for a car? Or maybe you can make time for a hobby you enjoy. Whichever you choose, planning ahead will help you balance your time between studying and relaxing.

Look after your body

When we don’t have a routine, it’s easy to fall into late nights and irregular eating habits. To prepare for returning to College, start setting a consistent bedtime so your body gets the rest it needs. This will also make that 7 am alarm a little easier to handle!

It’s just as important to think about your meals. Eating balanced, healthy food, especially a good breakfast, will give you the energy and focus you need to take in new information throughout the day.

Set goals for the year

Having goals set is a great way of motivating yourself to get your work complete. You should set yourself three goals.

Your goals can be academic, such as achieving a certain grade, or personal, like improving your time management skills. You will be able to look back on these goals at the end of the year and reflect on just how far you have come.

We also have numerous support options available for you if you need a helping hand, do not hesitate to talk to your tutor or mentor if you have any worries.
