On Thursday 3 July, EKC Broadstairs College proudly hosted our annual Student Celebration Awards, a special event dedicated to celebrating the hard work, progress and excellent achievements of our students.
The ceremony brought together students, staff, families, and local employers to mark the end of the academic year and recognise the incredible contributions of our learners across all departments.

This year’s awards were presented by our Senior Leadership Team, alongside representatives from local businesses and community partners who generously sponsored each of the curriculum awards.
Throughout the evening, students were recognised for their dedication, progress and outstanding achievements. Individual awards were nominated by each curriculum area, with additional honours being awarded for categories such as, Outstanding Innovation, Outstanding Achievement, Career Progression, Contribution to the Local Community, Inspirational Learner, and the highly sought-after Principal’s Award for Excellence.

Paul Owen, Principal of EKC Broadstairs College, reflected on the evening, commenting:
“Events like these are always a great opportunity to celebrate the achievement, progression and future destinations of each of our nominated learners. Everything we do at EKC Broadstairs College is to prepare our learners for their next step, wherever that may be.
Everyone within this auditorium tonight, students and staff alike, should be proud. Thank you for representing the College in the way that you have done this year.”
Throughout the event, sponsors highlighted the importance of supporting young people and praised the commitment of this year’s winners.
Amongst which was Miles Pullman who received the Junior College Outstanding Student Award. He told us how he is excited to be progressing onto EKC Canterbury College in September. Miles added: “I’m going to study Dance in Canterbury and I’m really excited.
“I’m ready for the next challenge now. Being part of the Junior College has helped me grow as a person. The teachers are more inclusive and care about you, so it makes you feel more confident to go on to bigger Colleges.”

Another highlight of the evening was Evie Andrassey, who took home both the Career Progression award and the coveted Principal’s Award for Excellence. Having shone during her placement at OFP Timber, Evie was headhunted for a position at AMETEK. Now successfully working full-time, Evie is putting her business knowledge into practice and thriving in a professional workplace.
Upon winning two awards, Evie said she was: “Overjoyed – my dad even teared up a little! I’m really surprised to have received the Principal’s Award, I’m so proud of myself, especially now I’ve secured my full-time job.
“My T Level has helped me so much and the staff at my work placement really pushed me and my skill development. It’s interesting to see everything I’ve learnt over the past two years be put into practice in the workplace. Every day I’m hearing business terms that I thought were just technical ‘jargon’, and processes that I didn’t realise would be used so often. So my course has really set me up well for my career.”
Deputy Head of Professional Industries, Karen Wilks, added: “When Evie was presented the final award, I felt like a proud parent. Throughout her time at College, she has done amazingly well and we’re so proud of the role she has secured herself.
“Evie has grabbed every opportunity she’s been given and has thrived in doing so. That’s something I’d encourage all learners to do, make the most of your time at College and say yes to every opportunity you’re presented with.”
