Foundation and Inclusive Learning students in lesson

Course overview

Our ‘Discovery’ courses enable students to discover and develop independent living skills, to prepare them for adulthood.

Key skills focused on include personal care, home safety, shopping, cooking, travel training and community participation, with opportunities to engage in creative and physical activities across the College.

Confidence and independence are also built during practical workshops.

Learning is tailored to each individual, with personalised targets reviewed regularly to support progression.

Course information

On our ‘Discovery’ courses, students learn many life skills, which are all delivered within the Inclusive Learning department.
Once a term we set new individualised targets to monitor and review students’ progress in these areas.

These skills include:
• Care
• Safety in the home
• Shopping
• Cooking
• Community skills
• Travel training

Students also get to learn within areas of the College such as Music, Sport and Art.

Additionally, we work in partnership with social workers and health professionals and use structured visual communication as a method to support our learning.
