EKC Broadstairs College students kick off the year at Freshers’ Fayre

EKC Broadstairs College students filled the Welcome Building today for the annual Freshers’ Fayre, as new and returning students came together to start the new academic year.

The College was full of energy as students stopped by the stalls to meet local organisations, pick up useful information and enjoy some candyfloss handed out by Student Experience Officer, Sean.

The wide range of stalls gave students the chance to meet different organisations, ask questions and find out more about the services and opportunities available to them.

From health and wellbeing support from NHS Kent School Health, SedX, and WithYou, to information about training and careers from EKC Training and WW Martin, students learnt all about the support available to them during their time at College and opportunities that could help them beyond their studies.

The event also gave students the chance to connect with organisations working in the local community. Margate Pride, Kent County Council, St John Ambulance, Anthony Nolan, and Kent Medway Violence Reduction Unit were among the organisations sharing information about their work and ways for students to get involved.

Students could also find out more about fitness, employment and the environment, with PureGymand Countrystyle Recycling also joining the event.

Student Experience Officer, Sean said: “Freshers’ Fayre is about welcoming both our new and returning learners. It’s also an opportunity to give students an idea of the outside organisations they’ll be meeting throughout the year and the services available to them.

“It’s been great to see the students’ smiles again after the summer break and it’s really nice to see everyone enjoying themselves.

“For new students, I’d definitely say take up the Students’ Union events, look out for trips and get involved in the amazing opportunities being put on by the Student Experience team.
