Take part in unique opportunities
Business students have helped to organize Careers Fairs, giving them real opportunities to work with local businesses. Students have also attended a trip to the Business Show at the Excel Centre where they took part in networking sessions and explored new business practices.
Our Business students pitched to a panel of professionals earlier this year as part of the T Level course.
Gain confidence in a work placement
Evie’s been combining classroom learning with hands on experience at OFP Timber as part of her T Level in Business Management and Administration.
From supporting with payroll to creating training guides for new staff, during her time with the company she took on real responsibilities, growing in confidence and skill.

Thorpe Park Conference
T Level students headed to Thorpe Park to attend a ‘Business and Marketing’ TED talk, giving them the opportunity to learn more about the industry and enrich their skills.
They also went behind the scenes to see how the theme park is run.
Careers Fairs
Business students helped out with the organisation of our recent Careers Fair.
This event showcases local businesses and industry experts so that students can find their futures.
Excel Centre Business Show
Students had a trip to the Business Show at the Excel Centre, where they learnt all about different businesses and their aims.
They also got to take part in dynamic networking sessions and explored new business practices.
Sustainability Insights
Students have been visiting business of all sizes, such as IKEA, to learn about their commitment to sustainability.

Meet our T Level Business Lecturer
Gillian McDermott
Gillian joined East Kent Colleges Group in 2016 as a Jobs Broker, helping adults gain employment and supporting them to overcome a range of barriers to this.
She has been teaching Business at EKC Broadstairs College since December 2020 and is the lead lecturer on the T Level Business and Administration programme.
Gillian has spent most of her working life in the private sector. She has worked in the travel and digital print industries in sales and also in marketing management roles.
As a branch, regional sales and sales and marketing manager she held a key responsibility for the recruitment and selection of staff. Along with customer service, these areas are of particular interest to her, and her experience is passed down to students on our courses.

It’s been great to experience the practical side of business, such as in my work placement with St Lawrence’s College.
There, I have been helping the bursary team, and have learnt so much about what they do and gained lots of first-hand experience when it comes to admin tasks.
